World Book Day
World Book Day has evolved into a massive date in the Dane Ghyll Calendar (some would argue even better that Christmas).
At Dane Ghyll to maximise our love of reading, but also the new learning opportunities every year, our World Book Day is themed around a classic children's text. This enables us to spend a whole day diving into the story, understanding scenes and settings, getting to meet the characters first hand and share in their experiences. The children love it and it gives them an appreciation of a text they might not otherwise experience.
For example, WBD 2025 was based on Lewis Carroll's 'Alice in Wonderland'. Both the children and staff looked amazing and throughout the day children from Nursery to Year 6 painted the roses red for the Queen of Hearts, Played Croquet with the cards, met the Caterpillar and the Cheshire Cat, made 'Drink Me potions', wrote a song with the Mock Turtle, put the Knave of Hearts on trial and celebrated their unbirthday with the Mad Hatter.
